Myofunctional Therapy

Find relief from sleep apnea, jaw pain, clenching, grinding, head and neck tension, mouth breathing as well as support to maintain orthodontic results through a non invasive, specialized therapy focused on improving muscle control of the tongue, throat, mouth and jaws.

In the early 2000’s, a Swiss music teacher found an interesting benefit of playing the didgeridoo, an ancient Australian aboriginal wind instrument. He observed that both he and several of his students experienced a significant reduction in snoring and daytime sleepiness after practicing the instrument for a few months.

Over the 25+ years since, researchers have used this discovery to replicate specific throat, tongue and breathing exercises that have been shown to provide a 50% reduction in obstructive sleep apnea severity. Myofunctional therapists are specially trained professionals who guide patients in learning and applying these exercises.

Importantly, therapy has also been found to help to relieve:

  • teeth clenching and grinding

  • symptoms of TMJ disorders

  • head and neck tension

  • headaches

  • tongue thrusting habit

  • mouth breathing.
