Bad breath (Halitosis) is a very common complaint. All of us at some time will suffer from it, though a few may suffer more frequently and more persistently than others. While certain medical conditions can cause it, overwhelmingly it is an unhealthy amount of bad bacteria in our mouths that cause it. A dry mouth can make it worse as bacteria thrive. Gum disease, untreated cavities, openings around fillings and crowns can all harbor the stinkiest of the little bugs. So, first step - brush and floss and see us to treat the problem areas. Most will find immediate relief. Adding unsweetened yogurt has also been shown to help. Alcohol based mouth rinses can give a quick burst of flavor, but make a bad breath problem even WORSE. Non-alcohol rinses such as Crest Pro-Health, or my favorite TheraBreath are better choices.
